Case Studies

C-Suite Service

A Fortune 500 company will soon nominate a new candidate to serve on its Board of Directors. The management team asks I-Cover to determine whether there is any information about the candidate that could cause a negative reaction when the nomination is made public.

Due Diligence

A middle-market private equity firm that targets small manufacturers has initiated talks to invest in an industrial cleaning company whose original founders are nearing retirement and seeking to handoff the company to second-generation managers. I-Cover initiates preliminary due diligence into the prospective managers and determines that one has formed several side businesses which have been sued for breach of contract and fraud. I-Cover’s early intelligence allows its client to discreetly exclude the problem employee from the company’s future management ranks while continuing with the acquisition.

Litigation Support

An attorney and her legal team is preparing to take a client’s case to trial and they need to locate several persons who are believed to have witnessed the events at issue in the case. The attorney only knows the persons’ names and the city where the events of the case transpired. A filing deadline for submitting a list of case witnesses looms. I-Cover’s team of former reporters tracks down each potential witness and interviews them about their knowledge of the case. I-Cover quickly prepares concise statements for each witness and forwards them to the attorney in time to meet the filing deadline.

Employment Screening

An energy services firm has acquired a smaller competitor and wants to retain its existing staff, but needs to vet the background of the incoming employees. I-Cover works with the firm’s human resources manager to devise a two-tier background screening plan for low-level workers and prospective managers.

Workplace Violence & Asset Protection

A frightened employee tells her manager that her estranged husband has been following her to work and threatening to kill himself if she finalizes a divorce. I-Cover’s investigators confirm the presence of the divorce proceedings and determine that the husband has a temporary restraining order against him and has recently posted images of an assault rifle on his social media account. Motor vehicle data and a recent photograph of the husband are obtained and relayed to on-site security guards, who are put on full alert until the danger passes.

Fraud Investigations

A routine audit has uncovered a series of unusual invoices submitted by several unknown vendors and approved by the same manager. I-Cover’s investigators quickly determine the vendors are not legitimate businesses and the invoices were submitted by a long-time friend of the manager. After confirming the two men submitted fraudulent invoices totaling more than $2.5 million, I-Cover helps the company’s general counsel prepare the facts of the case for presentation to law enforcement.

Business Intelligence

Several key employees in a client’s research lab recently submitted their resignations. The client suspects the employees may have been poached by a competitor who is seeking to obtain the client’s propriety data. I-Cover’s investigators determine that all of the departed employees are now working at the same location—an office suite leased to a newly created company that is linked to the competitor. I-Cover initiates surveillance on the location and is able to document key meetings between the client’s former employees and employees of its competitor. Video evidence and supporting documents are compiled and presented to the client’s general counsel.
